Bangchak Group opens LNG refuelling station in Thailand

Bangchak Group, a SET-listed company, has opened the first-ever LNG refuelling station in Thailand, it said on October 4. The station is located at Bangchak Map Iang in Chonburi Province, and is operated by BTSG Company (BTSG), a joint venture between Bangchak Corporation and Thai Special Gas (TSG).

The station is capable of accommodating approximately 100 vehicles/day and is a significant step forward for the adoption of clean fuels in Thailand. LNG is a cleaner alternative to diesel, and it can help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Chaiwat Kovavisarach, Group CEO of Bangchak Corporation Public Company, said, "Today marks the official beginning of another business venture within Bangchak Group. We are delighted to be an operator of the LNG refuelling station with the first license in Thailand from the Department of Energy Business."

Kovavisarach also added that Bangchak Group plans to expand the number of LNG refuelling stations to major cities across all four regions of Thailand and collaborate with business partners in the transportation sector to jointly establish these stations.

"The primary goal is to ensure convenient and extensive coverage, as well as promoting the widespread usage and adoption of clean fuels. The expansion will meet the growing demand for LNG in the transportation sector, making clean energy accessible in every region of the country and catering to the industrial sector’s demand as well," Kovavisarach said.

Thailand has been opening up its LNG sector which state energy company PTT has dominated. It has awarded LNG import licences to a number of companies, including Hin Kong. Other firms with LNG shipping licences are Egco, B.Grimm, state-run PTT Global LNG, Egat, Gulf Energy Development, and Siam Cement Group.
