APLNG secures gas supply extension with Orica

Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG), a joint venture between Origin, ConocoPhillips, and China's Sinopec, has signed a contract to extend the supply of gas to mining company Orica to 2025, APLNG said on January 8.

Under the terms of the contract, APLNG will deliver an additional 2.92 petajoules of gas to Orica in 2025. CEO Khoa Dao said the agreement was a further demonstration of APLNG’s commitment to supplying the east coast gas market.

“Orica’s current contract was struck as a result of tenures granted to Australia Pacific LNG that included domestic supply conditions specifically focused on supporting manufacturing,” he said.

As of the end of 2023, APLNG had already supplied over 142 petajoules of gas to the domestic market, and the company anticipates providing an additional 151 petajoules in 2024.

APLNG stands as Australia's largest producer of coalbed methane (CBM), contributing significantly to Queensland's domestic gas market. Moreover, APLNG processes CBM into LNG for export purposes.
