Anti-fracking campaigners face possible police investigation after it emerged people had been registered as supposed opponents of the practice in Yorkshire without their consent.

North Yorkshire County Council, which is preparing to decide on an application by shale gas explorer Third Energy to frack a well near Kirby Misperton, said it had discovered the issue while verifying the identities of those who had responded to its consultation.
