Xinjiang's First Demonstrative CBM Project to Come Online Next Month

A demonstrative coalbed methane (CBM) project in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is expected to come online by October end, reported Xinhua Finance Agency.

The first of its kind project in Fukang Baiyanghe mining area of the region is designed to annually produce 30 million cubic meters of CBM. The compressed CBM will be fed to gas stations in surrounding cities for motor vehicles use. The gas will also be supplied to meet civil and industrial demand through pipelines in future.

Construction work on the project began last year with investment of 250 million yuan. The project's production capacity would increase significantly in the coming three to five years, Xinhua Finance reported.

Xinjiang is rich in hydrocarbons resources and is estimated to hold 9.5 trillion cubic meters of gas, accounting for 26 percent of national total.
