Work Starts on 2nd Phase of Sinopec's Qingdao Terminal

Chinese state Sinopec held October 20 the ground-breaking ceremony for the second phase of its Qingdao LNG import terminal in Shandong province, it said October 23.

In the second phase, the company will add two 160,000 m3 storage tanks to the terminal. Sinopec will also build new warehouses and acquire additional land near the terminal. Once the second phase is complete, terminal’s handling capacity will more than double to 7mn mt/yr, Sinopec said. The company did say by when second phase work will finish. 

The second phase of the Qingdao LNG project was officially approved by Shandong provincial government late-July, Sinopec said August 2. Located in the port city of Qingdao in Shandong province, the terminal at present has a capacity to handle 3mn mt/yr of LNG.

In addition to Qingdao, Sinopec operated two other terminals: Tianjin and Beihai. Last month, Sinopec said it will look to build three new terminals at Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, Nantong in Jiangsu province and Longkou in Shandong province.
