Wintershall Bets on Offshore in Norway

Germany’s Wintershall sees business opportunities in Norway, mainly in the offshore segment. On Thursday it opened a new office in Bergen, second largest city of the Scandinavian country.

“With our strong team of highly skilled and experienced specialists in Bergen, we have created a new operations office for our current offshore activities in Norway. The expertise we gain here will also be incorporated into the development of the Maria field as well as future projects,” Bernd Schrimpf, Managing Director of Wintershall Norge said in a note.

Wintershall wants to increase its offshore expertise, planning to expand its Norway-based staff from 500 to around 600 members.

‘By taking over stakes in the fields Brage, Gjøa and Vega, Wintershall was recently able to increase its production in Norway more than tenfold to 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe),’ says the company.

Norway’s new government pledged several times to raise competition in the energy markets.
