WestSide spuds another Meridian SeamGas well

Coalbed methane (CBM) player WestSide Corporation has spudded MER-11V pilot production well on its Meridian SeamGas CBM fields in PL 94 in the Bowen basin, Queensland.

The well will be drilled to a planned target depth of 1333 metres to test for gas bearing coalbeds in the deeper part of the Meridian field.

MER-11V is the fifth well in an exploration program that WestSide said was designed to increase the Meridian SeamGas joint venture's gross proved and probable reserves by up to 5.3 billion cubic metres.

The company added the MER-02V appraisal well reached its target depth of 618 metres last week and intersected the Baralaba coalbeds and Kaloola formation, with total net coal measured exceeding 19 metres.

Earlier in the week WestSide spudded the MER-08V coalbed methane (CBM) appraisal well.

WestSide holds a 51% stake in the Meridian SeamGas CBM fields, with Japan’s Mitsui holding the remaining 49% stake.
