WestSide Keeps on Spudding at Meridan

Australian coalbed methane (CBM) player WestSide Corporation has spudded the MER-14X exploration well in PL 94 on it Meridian SeamGas field in the Bowen basin, Queensland.

The well will be drilled to a target depth of 800 metres and then logged, tested and suspended as a future monitoring well.

MER-14X is the ninth well to be drilled in an exploration programme designed to increase the gross proved and probable reserves of the Meridian SeamGas CBM field by up to 5.3 billion cubic metres.

WestSide added the MER-03V appraisal well had intersected the Baralaba coal measures and Kaloola formation, with total net coal measured exceeding 21 metres.

It said the MER-11V appraisal well had also intersected total net coal measure exceeding 22 metres.

WestSide has a 51% stake and in operator of the Meridian SeamGas field with Japan’s Mitsui holding the remaining 49% interest.
