Weekly US Rig Count Grows; Canada Down Again

The number of rigs actively drilling in the US grew for the third consecutive week in the period ended April 1, US oilfield services provider Baker Hughes said in its weekly report, moved ahead one day due to the Good Friday holiday.

A total of 430 rigs were active in the US, up from 417 the previous week. The oil rig count increased by 13, to 337, while the gas rig count slipped by one, to 91. Two rigs were classified as ‘Miscellaneous’.

In Canada, where spring breakup is in full swing, idling field activity, the working rig count fell to 69 from 81, with gas rigs down five to 45 and oil rigs down seven to 24.
