Wartsila to supply systems for six Arctic LNGCs

Warstila will supply inert gas generator, radio and integrated navigations systems for six LNG carriers that will serve the Novatek-led Arctic LNG-2 project in the Russian Arctic, the Finnish equipment supplier said on May 28.

The orders were placed by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering (DSME) in April, and include options for equipment for an additional two plus two vessels. Inert gas systems safeguard against the risk of explosions on board liquefied gas and oil tankers. Wartsila will also install multifunction display systems on the vessels, with workstations equipped with a full set of navigation and radio applications.

Wartsila's equipment will arrive at the South Korean yard beginning in September this year. The company won an order last month to provide radio and navigation systems for a further 10 LNGCs due to serve Arctic LNG-2. In January it was also picked to supply dual-fuel engines for the same six LNGCs that will receive its equipment under the latest order.
