Vopak completes acquisition of 50% stake in EemEnergy LNG terminal

Dutch Vopak on December 1 announced that it had completed the acquisition of a 50% stake in EemsEnergyTerminal, an LNG import terminal located at Eemshaven in the Netherlands. The company signed an agreement with Gasunie to acquire the stake in April 2023 for €80mn.

The terminal has been operational since September 2022 and has a regasification capacity of 8bn m3/year. Gasunie and Vopak are working to increase the capacity to 10bn m3/year. The partners are also planning to further develop the Eemshaven site to facilitate the import of green hydrogen.

Vopak and Gasunie are also the founders and owners of the Gate terminal in Rotterdam, which has been operational since 2011. The Gate terminal has a current regasification capacity of 16bn m3/year. The partners are planning to increase the capacity by another 4bn m3/year and add a fourth tank for this additional capacity.
