Venture Global LNG announces long-term expansion plan

US LNG developer Venture Global LNG on September 4 announced its long-term expansion plan to increase production from 70mn tonnes/year to more than 100mn tonnes/year. The company has also executed an expanded master equipment supply agreement with Baker Hughes which will provide liquefaction train systems and power island systems for Venture Global's future LNG export projects.

The expansion plan includes the development of three new LNG export projects in Louisiana: CP2 LNG, a 20mn tonnes/year facility; the 20mn tonnes/year Delta LNG project and Calcasieu Pass Stage 3, a 10mn tonnes/year facility. Venture Global said it also plans to develop additional LNG export projects in other locations around the world.

“Venture Global is thrilled to announce our long-term plan to expand LNG production both in and outside of Louisiana, building on the momentum of our first three projects – Calcasieu Pass, Plaquemines LNG and CP2 LNG,” said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global. “Now more than ever we are committed to our mission of delivering low-cost LNG at a larger scale to support the world’s growing demand for energy security, prosperity, and environmental progress.”

“Natural gas will continue to play a critical role as a bridging and destination fuel for the energy transition. We are proud of our longstanding collaboration with Venture Global LNG and continue to support their plan to expand LNG production to address global energy demand,” said Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of Baker Hughes.

Earlier this year, Venture Global reached a financial close and took a final investment decision on the $7.8bn second phase of its 20mn tonnes/year Plaquemines LNG terminal in Louisiana. The first 10mn tonnes/year phase at Plaquemines was sanctioned in May 2022.
