Venture Global, French EDF in LNG Deal

US LNG developer Venture Global LNG said February 25 it had entered into a 20-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with Electricite de France (EDF) for the supply of 1mn mt/yr of LNG from Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG export terminal in Louisiana.

The agreement, under which EDF will purchase LNG on a free-on-board basis starting from the commercial operations date of the Plaquemines facility, brings to 3.5mn mt/yr the amount of LNG contracted from the planned 20mn mt/yr liquefaction terminal.

Plaquemines LNG has received siting and construction approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and export authorisations from the US Department of Energy and is expected to begin construction this year on the banks of the Mississippi River south of New Orleans.
