Var Energi prompts suppliers to cooperate

Norway's Var Energi wants suppliers to team up in a tender underway for the fabrication and installation of subsea equipment across its operated assets, the company reported on January 26.

The tender calls for suppliers to offer joint solutions in a three-party group, rather than the more traditional model where several sub-contracts are issued to individual companies, Var said.

"We believe strategic cooperation between suppliers will lead to improved and more efficient end-solutions," Var's vice president for procurement and contracts, Annethe Gjerde said. "Early involvement in projects secure more efficient planning and implementation. We also believe that the model will provide added value for all parties, as well as contribute to a sustainable development."

Var's owners are Italy's Eni and private equity firm HitecVision. The company has several new projects in the pipeline, including the Balder X life extension, and discoveries it made last year in the North Sea and the Barents Sea. It plans  to announce a contract for the subsea work in the first quarter of 2022.
