US Venture Global Roofs in First Tank

US privately owned infrastructure developer Venture Global has raised the first LNG storage tank roof at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility in Louisiana, it said April 27.  "This major project milestone was completed on schedule and comes a mere eight months after the project’s final investment decision (FID)," it said.

Although it took the FID last summer, it began site work early in 2019. The 10mn metric ton/year plant is due to start exporting LNG in 2022.

The 1.8mn lb (818 metric ton) tank dome and assembly were air raised into place over two hours April 24 by engineering giant McDermott's subsdiary CB&I Storage Tank Solutions, which is building the two 200,000 m3 tanks.

Venture Global also said the export facility’s marine perimeter wall and levee are complete three months ahead of schedule. "With the site now fully protected, the focus turns to the arrival and installation of the project’s modular equipment. The first piperack modules arrived at the site and were successfully installed in April, and equipment for the project’s 720-MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant is scheduled to begin arriving next month," it said.

The company said the "safe and successful roof raise and the completion of these other milestones are a reflection of the company’s continued commitment to execution and safety. The project has now exceeded more than 4.7 million work hours without a recordable incident."
