US tech suite caters to the energy transition

US clean energy tech company Babcock & Wilcox on May 25 unveiled a suite of technology solutions for use in the energy transition, including for hydrogen production and CO2 sequestration.

Its so-called ClimateBright suite includes technology that produces hydrogen from a variety of feedstocks, while at the same time isolating CO2 for possible industrial uses. Other solutions in its portfolio include combustion processes the company said was ideal for CO2 isolation and sequestration.

Kenneth Young, the company’s chairman, said work was supported by university research and the US Department of Energy.

“We are currently working with many clients to determine the best carbon capture solution based on their specific needs,” he said.

Carbon capture and storage technology is expanding across North America. A bipartisan bill drafted in March offers tax credits as a way to incentivise future development.

On hydrogen, a study from the US Department of Energy estimated that new uses in the energy sector could generate as much as $140bn in revenue and create some 700,000 jobs by 2030.
