US Regulator Approves Kinder Morgan Flow Reversal to Supply Sabine Pass LNG

US regulator Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on November 20 approved a $151mn project by Kinder Morgan that will provide 600mn ft3/day of firm service into Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG export terminal.

The project, billed as the Sabine Pass Expansion Project, allows for flows on the Kinder Morgan Louisiana (KML) Pipeline, originally built to deliver natural gas imported to the US at Sabine Pass, to be reversed so gas can be delivered to Sabine Pass, and eventually to Magnolia LNG’s planned export terminal at Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The work involves a new interconnect between KML and the Sabine Pass export terminal, modifications to existing delivery meter stations connecting KML to the Columbia Gulf, Texas Gas and ANR interstate systems in Louisiana, a new 47,700 horsepower compressor station in Acadia Parish, Louisiana and two header pipelines connecting existing ANR, Texas Gas and Pine Prairie meter stations to the new compressor station.

When service is to begin to Magnolia LNG, an additional 64,000 horsepower of compression will be added to the new station.

The new facilities are expected to be in service by April 2019.
