US LNG Companies More Flexible Than Ever, Says Lithuanian Minister

The Baltic region proved once more its commitment to gas over the last hours, with Lithuania saying that US companies are becoming more flexible.

‘For example, several years ago the US exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) were interested only in long-term contracts and large gas quantities. Now they are looking at smaller markets such as Lithuanian market as well’ reads the note released by Lithuania’s Ministry of Energy on Tuesday, commenting the recent Minister’s trip to the US.

The Lithuanian government spoke about the deals clinched by LITGAS with Cheniere and Delfin LNG, underlining the geopolitical dimension of energy ties between Lithuania and the US.

“Lithuania is seen by the US as a country capable of implementing major energy projects and seeking to increase its own and the region‘s energy security. This is highly valued by both politicians and businessmen in the US” Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis said in the press release.

On the other hand, the importance of financial factors cannot be underplayed. LNG prices matter probably more than energy diplomacy.

Meanwhile, the region is expected to increase also its biogas production. Gasum and Porvoon Energia are joining forces in Finland to trigger domestic production.

Last month, Gasum stressed that gas could play a significant role in the transportation sector.
