US FERC Approves Train 3 Service at Freeport LNG

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) on April 30 approved a request from Freeport LNG to place the third and final train at its brownfield 15mn mt/yr liquefaction and export terminal at Quintana Island, Texas into service.

The first 5mn mt/yr liquefaction and export train at the terminal – which has been operating as an import and regasification facility since 2008 – began commercial operations in September 2019, while Train 2 achieved commercial status in January this year.

Development of a Train 4 expansion – also 5mn mt/yr – has received Ferc approval and Department of Energy export approvals, although a final investment decision on the project has not yet been made.
