US-based NexTier to supply CNG for Permian operations

US upstream services company NexTier Oilfield Solutions said August 2 it launched a new business unit meant to deliver fuel for gas-powered fleets working in the Permian basin.

NexTier launched its Power Solutions division, which it said would provide fuelling services in the shale basin situated in parts of New Mexico and Texas.

“The addition of Power Solutions integrates the latest in compressed natural gas (CNG) supply and field-gas handling technologies with NexTier's existing portfolio of natural gas-fueled completion services,” the company explained. “This helps to reduce fuel costs and improve the company's overall environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance at the well site.”

NexTier said it would purchase the gas, through undisclosed terms, from EagleClaw Midstream, a private company with a strong infrastructure footprint across the Permian shale. NexTier added that supplies of CNG to frac fleets had already displaced more than 80% of the diesel used during pumping operations.
