US Approves Additional Exports By Gulf LNG Project

The US Department of Energy on July 31 authorised additional exports of LNG from Kinder Morgan’s proposed Gulf LNG project in Mississippi to countries without a free trade agreement with the US.

Under the order, Gulf LNG Liquefaction Company will be authorised to export for 20 years up to 1.53bn ft3/day (558.9bn ft3/year) of natural gas as LNG to any non-FTA country. In 2012, the project received a 25-year authorisation to export up to 547.5bn ft3/year of LNG to FTA countries, and on July 16, 2019 received final regulatory approvals from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Kinder Morgan, however, has yet to reach a positive final investment decision on the project.
