Unconventional Oil in France

France currently produces 900,000 tonnes of crude per year.

Domestic production is shared mainly between four operators: Vermilion Energy (46%), Total France (25%), Lundin (16%) and Toreador Resources (5%).

Some fields are "mature", while others undergoing a conversion for their successful re-industrialization.

The focus today is mostly on non-conventional hydrocarbons: shale oil in the Paris Basin, tight gas, shale gas and coal-bed methane ( "CBM"), gas trapped in coal.
