Ukraine Wants to Know Europe's Final Position Regarding South Stream

Ukraine is waiting for Europe to confirm inexpediency of construction of gas pipeline South Stream, Naftogaz chairman Vadym Chuprun told a press conference.

"We want Europe's guarantees that our GTS remains the most reliable and promising for gas supplies. We need clear answer about what they are going to do with South Stream," Chuprun said.

According to the official, Ukraine's GTS meets all requirements to guarantee gas supplies to Europe. "For today and for the future Ukraine's GTS totally meets the requirements on security and provision of gas to Europe, and for now there is no need to build South Stream," Chuprun noted.

He underlined that the construction of South Stream requires big amounts of investments. "We are talking about 22-27 billion dollars. This is not small money taking into account the economic situation in European countries. What's the emergency if Ukraine meets all the requirements to secure gas supplies to Europe?" the official added.
