Ukraine, Russia to Return to Gas Talks in November

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that he expects a fair gas price from Russia following a meeting with Russian President Vladmir Putin in Moscow on Monday night.

During the meeting of the two presidents, the issue of energy, a significant issue between Russia and Ukraine, was discussed, President Yanukovych said in a statement released on the Kremlin's website on Monday evening.

"We gave significant attention to issues of bilateral cooperation in energy," he said. "In this regard, I would like to stress that we are continuing talks on the so-called gas issue, which is very relevant for Ukraine, and we expect to work out an economically sound, fair formula for establishing gas prices for our nation."

Though the issue was not resolved and only discussed at the meeting, President Yanukovych said yesterday that Ukraine would return to the discussions with Russia on gas next month, following the Ukrainian elections.

"We have a move towards understanding the necessity of solving this issue," he is reported as saying on the Ukrainian government website. "We have given the instructions to our performers in charge of this problem and I think that in November we will meet to discuss this issue again."
