Ukraine Imports Belarusian Power

Ukrainian state gas supplier Naftogaz Ukrainy has started importing electricity from Belarus and has already concluded some day-ahead trades, it said September 20.

"Naftogaz is using all  means possible to sell energy products to customers on the best terms," it said. "In particular, we are diversifying our purchases of electricity, and have begun imports on a long-term contract with Belenergo," said the head of the integrated gas business Andrei Favorov. It has also sold some power in the balancing market.

Naftogaz Ukrainy delivers gas and electricity throughout Ukraine. A new electricity market started operating July 1 and since then Ukraine has imported about 586 TWh of electricity. It did not say which other countries were selling it.
