Ukraine Extends Contracts of Two Naftogaz Directors

Ukraine's cabinet of ministers has extended the contracts of two independent directors on the supervisory board of Ukraine's Naftogaz, Clare Spottiswoode and Bruno Lescoeur, for another six months.

The pair have served on the board since December 2017. Spottiswoode, the board's chair, is a former British gas market regulator, while Lescoeur was formerly a senior executive in the French energy sector, including at EDF.

Naftogaz lost a supervisory director in October when US businessman and former diplomat Amos Hochstein resigned over the government's resistance to reforms and political interference. Spottiswoode issued a statement at the time saying the company was "resilient to outside influence" and its board would "continue to protect the company from political influence and any attempts to roll back anti-corruption steps in the state-owned energy sector."
