Ukraine Completes Repairs of Pipeline Following Blast

Repairs have been completed on Ukraine's Kyiv-Western Ukraine-1 pipeline, gas grid operator GTSOU said in a statement on September 17, following an explosion that occurred two days earlier.

Around-the-clock work has carried out at the site of the blast in the Kyiv region and 38 metres of the affected section of pipe have been replaced.

The Kyiv-Western Ukraine-1 pipeline carries gas from fields in eastern Ukraine to underground storage sites near the country's border with the EU. GTSOU reiterated that there had been no interruption in gas supply to Ukrainian consumers, or Russian gas transit via Ukraine, due to the incident. Supplies were rerouted to other pipelines.

The operator did not say when the pipeline would resume gas flow, and the cause of the blast is yet to be explained.
