Ukraine Brings in Daily Gas Balancing

The Ukrainian gas market has switched to a daily balancing regime with effect from March 1, state Naftogaz Ukrainy said March 4. To support this transition to the European Union market rules, Ukraine's gas transmission system operator Ukrtransgaz has introduced a new information platform based on SAP software.

The move means that Ukraine has "fulfilled all relevant commitments by the government of Ukraine within the Association Agreement with the European Union," the state entity said. Still to come is the unbundling, a key requirement for competitive markets under the EU gas directive.

Traders can access diverse data from the Ukrtransgaz website, including the quantity of gas consumers registered in the system, as well as the number of submitted and confirmed nominations. Using their personal EIC codes, gas consumers can also check their status, including availability of a supplier or inclusion to the disconnection list.

During the transition period, Ukrtransgaz conducted over 20 workshops for more than 1,500 network users and continues to consult all market participants through its technical support centre.
