Russian Gas Transit via Ukraine down 46% in Apr

Ukraine transited 46% less Russian gas year on year in April, with shipments reaching only 3.8bn m3, its transmission system operator (TSO) GTSOU said on May 4.

Transit shipments during January through April were down 47% yr/yr at 15.5bn m3. The volume was also 40% less than the average amount during the first four months of each year between 2014 and 2019.

Under the terms of its 2021-2024 transit deal with Kyiv, Russia's Gazprom will pay to ship at least 65bn m3 of gas through Ukraine this year, regardless of whether it actually sends that much, and split equally between the 12 months. This threshold will fall to 40bn m3/yr between 2021 and 2024.
