3T EnerMech, a partnership between UK companies 3T Energy and EnerMech, has been hired by the Guyanese government to set up the South American country's first oil and gas training centre in the South American country, the joint venture said on February 16.

The initiative, backed by Guyana's ministry of education and public service, will "provide its world-leading innovative and sustainable training solutions to help upskill the people of Guyana with technical and competency skills to support roles across multiple sectors."

The Guyana Training Centre of Excellence will provide trainees with the skills and certifications they need to enter the offshore workforce, combining in-classroom training facilities with blended learning software and technology, and immersive solutions. Training will begin before the end of the year.

Guyana joined the ranks of the world's oil producers in December 2019, when ExxonMobil brought online the country's first oilfield, Liza-1. There are plans to develop and utilise associated gas at the field and other offshore sites, to support the construction of gas-fired power plants.
