Two Hurt in Heimdal Blast: Equinor (Update)

(Updates with details throughout)

Two Equinor employees remain hospitalised in a "serious work-related incident" on the Heimdal platform in the Norwegian North Sea November 28, operator Equinor said. The victims were a 22-yr old man and a 19-yr old woman, neither of whose injuries are life-threatening.

A controlled production shutdown on Heimdal is planned to ensure proper follow-up of personnel on board the platform.

The incident occurred as a result of an explosion of a portable nitrogen gas container on the platform, pictured above (credit: Equinor/KM). There were 70 personnel on board the platform at the time.

Equinor is following up both those injured and their families and it has informed the relevant authorities. It is too early to say anything about the cause of the incident, but the petroleum safety authority Norway and the police have travelled to the platform to start their investigations, Equinor said in an update at 14.00 GMT November 19.
