Turkey Takes Less Russian Gas

Turkey decreased Russian gas import by about 2.4bn m³ during Q1-3 2016 to about 16.7bn m³, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority statistics indicate.

According to the monthly reports of EMRA, Azerbaijan exported 9.1% more, a total 4.85bn m³, which was due to a particularly low August export figure the year before.

That was the month Azerbaijan stopped platform Alpha in Shah Deniz gas field for 20 days for maintenance works and at the same time the Turkish section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline exploded. Accordingly, Azerbaijan exported only less than 36mn m³ to Turkey in August 2015. During last year, Azerbaijan’s gas exports to Turkey reached 6.169bn m³ (excluding Georgia’s 5%-gas transit fee).

Iran’s gas export to Turkey also increased slightly by 133mn m³/d to about 5.56bn m³ in Jan-Sep 2016.

In total, Turkey imported 33.83bn m³ of natural gas and LNG during the period, or a 1.366bn m³ decline year-on-year.
