Turkey Keen on Buying Gas from Qatar

Turkey would be interested in purchasing natural gas from Qatar, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said earlier this week in Doha.

Yildiz on Monday met with his Qatari counterpart Muhammad Salih al-Sada in the Qatari capital, reports Turkey’s Anadolu news agency.

"Qatar is the world's biggest supplier of LNG. Turkey and Qatar to date did not have a long term contract on the LNG. Yet we hope to conclude such a long term contract," Yildiz said.

Turkey at the moment buys LNG from five countries.

"We want to see Qatar as the sixth country from which we purchase natural gas. I believe that Qatar will also make investments in Turkey," Yildiz stated, reports Anadolu news agency.

"As a country, we would be pleased with long-term contracts. Spot LNG trade takes place in a very dynamic market. Talks on this issue between our two countries continue. If we can agree on price and conditions, we can sell spot natural gas," al-Sada stated.

al-Sada also stated that Qatar is interested in establishing an LNG terminal in Turkey.
