Dry Wildcat Well North of Troll Field in North Sea

Tullow Oil Norge's wildcat well 31/3-4 on Norway’s PL551 is dry. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned, while the drilling facility will be used on the PL659 in the Barents Sea.

The primary target was to prove hydrocarbons in Late Jurassic reservoir rocks. Secondary exploration targets were in the Paleocenic rocks and Middle/Late Jurassic reservoir rocks.

‘In both the primary and secondary exploration targets the well encountered reservoir rocks and reservoir quality as expected,’ reads a note released by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate on Friday.

The exploration well is the first in the production licence. It was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,082 metres below sea level.
