TransCanada Subsidiary Plans More US Expansion

TC Pipelines, a subsidiary of Canadian pipeline operator TransCanada, said February 14 its majority-owned subsidiary, Portland Natural Gas Transmission System (PNGTS), had signed precedent agreements that will allow it to proceed with a second expansion on its system, which serves customers in the New England area of the US.

The $100mn (C$133.1mn) Westbrook XPress project is in addition to the current Portland XPress expansion project and will add about 106mn ft3/day of incremental capacity to the PNGTS system in two phases, the first with an in-service date expected in November 2019 and the second in November 2021. Together with the Portland XPress project, capacity on the PNGTS system will be increased by about 70%, to 350mn ft3/day from 210mn ft3/day.

Westbrook XPress is part of a coordinated offering to transport incremental Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin gas to the Northeast US and Atlantic Canada markets through additional compression capacity at an existing PNGTS facility, TransCanada said.
