TotalEnergies to join Sonatrach to develop Timimoun gas

French major TotalEnergies said April 8 it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, to develop natural gas assets in the Timimoun region of northeast Algeria.

The MoU outlines the framework of a work programme to appraise and develop the Timimoun gas resources, “in synergy with existing facilities for production from the Timimoun field to reduce costs and emissions,” TotalEnergies said.

TotalEnergies also said it had extended its LNG contractual agreement with Sonatrach until 2025, when Sonatrach is expected to begin delivering 2mn tonnes/year of LNG to the French port of Fos-Cavaou, near Marseilles.
