Torrent Power to supply gas-based power to NTPC during summer season

Mumbai-listed power generator Torrent Power announced on March 1 that it had secured a contract to supply power from its gas-based power plant to the state-owned utility NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) during the forthcoming summer season.

The competitive bidding process concluded with Torrent Power receiving the coveted letter of award from NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN).

The power supply is scheduled to commence on March 16, 2024, and will continue until June 30, 2024. This move aligns with the government of India's initiative, executed through NVVN, to address the peak power demand observed during specific periods in the summer months and post-monsoon, known as the crunch/high-demand period scheme.

Torrent Power, as the successful bidder, will deliver power from its DGEN Dahej power plant. The agreement between NVVN and Torrent Power outlines the contracting of 770 MW capacity, ensuring a minimum supply of 388 MUs of guaranteed power during the specified period.

Torrent Power has an aggregate installed generation capacity of 4,287 MW comprising of 2,730 MW of gas-based capacity, 1,195 MW of renewable capacity and 362 MW of coal based capacity.
