Toho inks carbon-neutral city gas supply pacts

Japanese utility Toho Gas has signed agreements with six of its customers to supply carbon-neutral city gas, it said on July 20. This will be the first time Toho will be supplying carbon-neutral gas to its customers.

Toho will supply the gas to Showa Densen Holdings Co., Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co., Denso, Tokai Rika Co., NGK Insulators, and NGK Ceramic Device Co. The supply will begin in August, Toho said.

This switch to carbon-neutral city gas will contribute to a total reduction of approximately 200,000 metric tons of CO2 from the six companies, Toho said. “Together with our customers, we will contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society and the further development of the Chubu region,” it added.

Toho received its first shipment of carbon-neutral LNG in April this year from Diamond Gas International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp.
