Titan LNG Charters LNG Bunkerer

Dutch small-scale LNG supplier Titan LNG has chartered the Green Zeebrugge LNG bunkering vessel from Japan's NYK Line for refuelling large-sized LNG-powered ships, it said on February 4.

The vessel, with a 5,200-m3 LNG storage capacity, will begin serving Titan LNG on a long-term basis this month. It will bunker vessels in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp area.

Green Zeebrugge joins Titan LNG's FlexFueler 001 and 002 bunkering barges. With expectation of rapid growth in demand for LNG as a shipping fuel, the company is nearing a final investment decision on a fourth, 8,000-m3 vessel, Titan LNG Hyperion, which should be ready by early 2023. It expects to have the biggest LNG bunkering fleet in Europe by 2025.

"January has proven exceptionally busy, underlining the timeliness of our decision to secure this additional capacity," Titan LNG's commercial director for maritime, Michael Schaap, said in a statement. Titan LNG caried out seven LNG operations during one weekend, three of which were to large crude shuttle tankers from Equinor, a term contract partner of Titan’s. Using the Green Zeebrugge we were able to ensure safe and timely deliveries to all the vessels."

Titan LNG added that soon it would start mixing bio-LNG in conventional LNG, to reduce emissions. It will begin using green hydrogen to produce synthetic liquefied gas for use as fuel in 2024.
