TFF down despite escalating Ukraine-Russia tensions

European gas prices fell slightly on February 21, despite escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Russia's military said on February 21 it had prevented a "diversionary reconnaissance" group from breaching the country's border with Ukraine in the Rostov region, according to Russian state media. The group of five saboteurs were killed, but not before destroying an FSB border facility, the Russian military said. But Ukraine has rejected the report as "fake news."

In a positive development, however, French president Emmanuel Macron has said Russian president Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden have agreed in principle to a summit over the Ukrainian crisis. But the Kremlin has responded saying it is "premature" to discuss such a plan.

Wind power generation has also been strong across Europe in recent days.

As of 16:00 GMT, the March delivery contract at the Dutch TTF gas hub was trading at €72.70 ($82.40)/MWh, down 1.5% versus the previous day of trading.
