Technip Awarded FEED Contract for CCS Project in Scotland

France’s Technip was awarded a contract by Shell UK to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) for the onshore elements of the Peterhead Gas Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) demonstration project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

“Technip is committed to the development of innovative, sustainable solutions for our customers and we look forward to expanding our footprint into the carbon capture and sequestration value chain,” Stan Knez, Technip’s Senior Vice President, Process Technology, commented in a note released on Wednesday.

The CCS project, which has been approved in later February by the British government, aims at capturing 10 million tonnes of CO2 over 10 years, transporting the emission to an offshore gas reservoir for long-term storage beneath the North Sea.

The FEED scope includes a grassroots carbon capture and compression plant and modifications to an existing combined cycle gas turbine power plant.

The design phase will last till 2015 and the final investment decision is expected right after.
