TAPI Pipeline Negotiations at the Final Stage

Negotiation related to TAPI natural gas pipeline is at the final stage, India’s Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in Parliament on Monday.

The TAPI pipeline will export up to 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India over 30 years. 

Last year, gas companies of TurkmenistanAfghanistanPakistan, and India established a company that will build, own and operate the planned 1,800-kilometer TAPI natural gas pipeline.

Pradhan said that once the pipeline is complete India would be free from bring dependant on Gulf countries on natural gas.

The minister also stated that Indian government will also take a decision on a project to bring natural gas from Iran through a pipeline passing through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
