TAP Steps Towards Greek, Italian Government Approval

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline took a step forward in receiving the official backing of Greece and Italy in the contest to move Caspian gas to Europe.

Support for TAP came today at a meeting held in Rome between Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and his Italian counterpart Giulio Terzi.

“This will make Greece, Italy and neighboring countries strategic partners in the distribution of natural gas in Europe,” Avramopoulos was quoted as saying.

TAP is competing against the Nabucco West project to win the approval of the consortium developing the second phase of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas field.
