Tanzania's Energy Investors Advised to Improve Capacity

“Tanzanian energy investors should improve their capacity to compete with international investors of the natural gas sector” Tanzania Oxygen, TOL Gases Limited’s Chairman, Harold Temu stated in Dar es Salaam.

The Chairman told local companies they should make sure they have enough funds, adopt new technology and required expertise for research and development.  Local investors must make sure they prepare themselves for the challenges.

TOL Gases recorded revenue of $6.57 million. This revenue represents a growth of 13% from 2012, that recorded a revenue of $5.79 million.

However “Operational challenges adversely affected higher performance of the new carbon dioxide wells at the new Ikama plant in Mbeya, owing to pressure drop from the just commissioned wells… It meant the company could not apprehend its projected carbon dioxide production levels for the better part of six months last year.” the chairman added.

Harold Temu  pointed out also another setback: the breakdown of the Aspen Plant. The company was forced to import liquid oxygen from the company’s competitors at a high cost, a move which was necessary to sustain customer demand. “The plant has not yet returned to service, because the required spare parts have just been received and rehabilitation work has commenced,” Temu told to the press.

TOL Gases is public company listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, as a leading manufacturer and distributor of industrial and medical gases in Tanzania.
