Sudan in Talks With Chinese Firms for Construction of Country's First Gas Pipeline

Sudan has held discussions with Chinese officials to build country’s first gas pipeline.

Sudanese oil minister Mohamed Zayed Awad Wednesday said he discussed with officials from the state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) ways to develop oil crude and natural gas extraction systems in Sudan in order to increase national production, reported Sudan Tribune newspaper.

The minister said an agreement is also expected to be signed with a Chinese company for construction of natural gas processing facilities. He did not name the company.

Amid low crude oil prices, Sudan seeks to develop natural gas industry, Awad said.

In line with an agreement reached in September 2015, China will explore for oil and gas in the Red Sea, Sinnar, and West Kordofan.

Sudan has also offered three oil and gas blocks to India’s ONGC Videsh.
