Strike’s Oz Jaws-1 Wells Now Expected to be Online in July

The Jaws-1 project wells in Australia’s Cooper basin are now expected to be online in early to mid-July, rather than June, following delays in accessing equipment, Strike Energy said May 28.

“The stimulation equipment was held up due to mobilisation delays on several wells for a major basin operator. The release of the spread will allow Strike to build upon the momentum gained during the completion of the Jaws wells and these final stages represent on of the most existing appraisal campaigns in the basin,” the company said.

Strike announced April 30 that it had completed drilling operations at its horizontal Jaws-1 project. In its quarterly activities report released April 26, the company said it was expecting to turn the pump on in June.

The Jaws-1 project drilling and stimulation services are being delivered by Halliburton. The stimulation program will be immediately followed by flowback operations, running of the final completion and connection of surface equipment, Strike said.

“With the release of the stimulation equipment to Strike now complete, remaining activities have been rescheduled with the Jaws-1 Project wells expected only in early to mid-July,” Strike said.

The Jaws appraisal campaign is designed to prove commercial flow rates of gas and assess the quality of Strike’s Southern Cooper Basin Gas Project in PEL96 (Strike 66.67% and operator, Energy World Corporation 33.33%).

Strike has previously said it aims to achieve commercial gas flow rates at Jaws-1 this year on an expected 50 TJ/day (1.34mn m3/d) project.
