Strikes on Total UK Fields (Update)

Update September 14: UK labour union, Unite, announced yesterday it would "postpone" its scheduled September 17 industrial action to allow its members to take part in a consultative ballot, after fresh proposals were tabled at its talks moderated by ACAS with Total. The original article published September 11 follows:

UK labour union, Unite, confirmed September 11 that its members have rejected a revised pay offer by Total by 95%.

Following talks by the independent conciliation service ACAS, the union last week balloted its offshore Total membership on the Alwyn, Dunbar and Elgin gas platforms in the UK central North Sea. A further meeting between Unite and Total has been scheduled for September 13, also under the ACAS' auspices. If that meeting is unsuccessful, Unite says that a prospective 12-hour stoppage by its members on the three platforms scheduled for September 17 will go ahead, and that further 12-hour strikes also scheduled on October 1, 15 and 29.

The fortnightly offshore strikes are now in at least their second month.
