Strike Hires Rig for West Oz Drilling

Strike Energy has hired the Ensign Rig 970 from Ensign Energy Services to drill the Walyering-5 appraisal well at permit EP447 in the Western Australia Perth basin, its venture partner Talon Petroleum said on October 12.

Strike operates the permit with a 55% interest, while Talon has a 45% stake, having completed a farm-in deal last month.

“Walyering-5 will be drilled and cased so that it can be turned into a production well, which because of the very good gas quality requiring minimal processing, and given the permit’s proximity to both existing pipeline infrastructure and potential commercial gas users could see very early and rapid commercialisation of any discovery,” Talon said.

Walyering is a conventional gas discovery. According to Talon, recently acquired 3D seismic data at the site has improved understanding and confidence in the Jurassic wet gas play and has indicated the presence of wet gas potential up dip of the existing Walyering-4 well.
