Stockholm Ruling on Russian Gas Prices Within A Month, Says Ukraine’s PM

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that a settlement of the disagreements between Moscow and Kiev on gas prices might not be found through negotiations, but as as a result of a court ruling.

Yatsenyuk recently said that the Stockholm arbitration court could take a decision within a month.

“We hold negotiations: the European Union and Ukraine as one, and Russia aimed at signing a provisional agreement until March 31 for the supply of natural gas,” Yatsenyuk said on the First National TV Channel, adding that this first way might be inconclusive.

Kiev still needs additional 5 billion cubic meters of gas to survive the winter.

“We have brought a special action in the framework of the general procedure. Within a month the court, unless we find an understanding in the trilateral format, will take a decision on the temporary price and terms of gas deliveries. As now it is a question of energy security of Europe,” he explained, suggesting that the court ruling might be an effective alternative to trilateral talks.
