Steelhead Sets Shortlist for LNG FEED

Steelhead LNG said January 29 it has narrowed to four the field of EPC contractors bidding for front-end engineering and design (FEED) on its 24mn metric tons/year (mt/year) Kwispaa LNG project on Vancouver Island’s west coast.

Initial production of 12mn mt/year is expected to begin in 2024.

The four include Black & Veatch/Samsung Heavy Industries/PCL Industrial Management; CB&I/Offshore Oil Engineering Co.; KBR; and TechnipFMC.

Invitations to tender will be issued in 2Q 2018, after which two bidders will be selected in 3Q 2018 to conduct FEED for Kwispaa, including At-Shore LNG™ Topsides, onshore power station, pre-treatment and balance of plant components.

Additionally, Hyundai Heavy Industries has been provisionally nominated as the fabrication contractor for EPC of two At-Shore LNG™ hulls – a total value of about US$500mn – to support the initial production capacity of the project. Hyundai will work with successful EPC contractors to execute FEED studies.

The At-Shore LNG™ approach drives down costs by reconfiguring proven technology of an onshore LNG plant in the most cost-effective way for the west coast of Canada. Each at-shore unit will have an LNG production capacity of up to 6 mt/year with about 280,000 m3 of integrated LNG storage.
